Arrival time estimation methodology for partial discharge acoustic signals in power transformers based on a double-threshold technique SCIE

Abstract :

Much attention has been paid to different localisation algorithms to locate partial discharge (PD) sources in power transformers using the acoustic emission (AE) technique. Due to total reflection, AE sensors cannot always detect the signal of a direct wave. As a result, localisation algorithms based on an indirect wave can be more accurate. But little research has addressed arrival time (AT) methods of indirect PD signals. In this paper, a double-threshold (DT) method is introduced, and its improvement based on short-time energy and a zero-crossing rate is described. Because an indirect wave arrives earlier and has lower energy than a direct wave, current AT methods, such as the energy criterion, cross-correlation, and linear prediction residual methods, cannot determine its AT. However, the proposed DT method can determine the AT precisely. Moreover, a localisation experiment was conducted on a 35 kV transformer, and localisation results were calculated employing various AT methods and different localisation algorithms, such as the Chan, genetic, imperial competition, and improved-propagation-route-search algorithms. Characteristics of the proposed AT methods were compared and analysed to show their feasibility and accuracy.

A Measurement Technology of Space Distance Among Transmission Bundle Conductors Based on Image Sensors EI

Abstract :

The vibration between the spacers of bundle conductors may cause the conductors to collide with each other, thereby damaging the conductors and the spacers, even resulting in adhesion. The main function of the spacers is to limit the relative movement between the bundle conductors, but it still exists. In order to find out the potential dangers caused by the movement and prevent adhesion among four or multibundle conductors, a measurement method of space distance among bundle conductors is presented in this paper. First, the images of bundle conductors are obtained by installing cameras on the optimum position of tower, which are segmented by the maximum interclass variance method after preprocess, and the axis of conductors can be obtained by the skeleton extraction. Second, the image coordinates of each point on the axis are transformed into the world coordinates by camera calibration, and these points are fit by least-squares method to get the conductor function. Then, the actual transmission conductor model can be reconstructed according to the fitting function, conductor diameter, and spacers. Finally, calculating the distance between two bundle conductors, the minimum distance can be obtained. We analyze the performance of the technology by a series of experiments; the results demonstrate that the proposed method can measure the space distance with an average relative error of 2&#x0025;-4&#x0025;. The running status of the bundle conductors can be monitored based on the presented method in this paper, by which the safe operation of transmission lines can be guaranteed. IEEE

Effect of low-temperature plasma on the degradation of omethoate residue and quality of apple and spinach CPCI-S SCIE Scopus CSCD

Abstract :

Dielectric barrier corona discharge was developed to generate low-temperature plasma (LTP) to treat apple and spinach samples contaminated with omethoate. Experimental results showed that, after 20 min exposure, the degradation rate of omethoate residue in apple and spinach was (94.55 +/- 0.01)% and (95.55 +/- 0.01)%, respectively. When the treatment time was shorter than 20 min, the contents of moisture, vitamin C and beta-carotene were not affected by LTP. Exploration of related mechanisms suggested that LTP might destroy unsaturated double bonds of omethoate and produce phosphate ion, eventually leading to omethoate destruction. It is concluded that appropriate dosage of LTP can effectively degrade omethoate residue in fruits and vegetables without affecting their quality.

Localization Method for Multiple Partial Discharge Sources in Air-insulated Substation by Using Plane Intersection Method EI

Abstract :

Recently, the ultra-high-frequency-based antenna array has been applied to partial discharge (PD) detection and localization in air-insulated substations (AIS). The range of PD source is generally estimated with high inaccuracy in most of the related instruments, and a localization algorithm which is applicable to the cases of multiple sources is not developed yet. We put forward a plane intersection method to localize multiple PD sources which may occur simultaneously in AIS. The time difference of arrival (TDOA) between antennas is estimated with the cross-correlation (CC) method, in which the CC function is interpolated with minor time interval to improve the TDOA accuracy when an acquisition instrument with low sampling rate is adopted. Thereafter, the time difference equations are solved with the plane intersection method, and the final localization results are determined as the one with highest probability among numerous signals. In the case of multiple PD sources, the K Means clustering algorithm is applied to TDOA vector of antenna array to separate UHF signals. A PD detection and localization experimental system is developed and used to test the accuracy of the proposed algorithm. The results indicate that, for diamond array with size of 4 m×2 m and PD sources within range of 10 m and 45° to normal line of antenna pair with distance of 4 m, the localization error is less than 1 m in all cases and 20 cm in most cases. Abstract :

Study of EM wave propagation characteristics in GIS is meaningful to analyze and localize partial discharge sources. First, based on the finite integration technique, the simulation of S parameters was performed to analyze changes of S parameters with the number of basin-type insulators. Meanwhile, a 252 kV GIS experiment platform was established, where signals from different positions could be obtained by inner sensors. Compared with S parameters calculated from experiments, the simulation results, which showed a good consistency both in waveform and amplitude, were proven to be reasonable. Moreover, a vector network analyzer was used to measure S parameters in different structures of GIS, and simulation models were refined and changed. The results of vector network analyzer were compared with those of simulation which had a good consistency and proved the rationalisation of the simulation conclusion. The results show that the attenuation influence of one insulator can be up to -3 dB, which is in proportion to the number of insulators. © 2018, High Voltage Engineering Editorial Department of CEPRI. Abstract :

A fluid model is built in this paper to describe and study the atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier glow discharge pulse in helium. The collision excitation and ionization reactions between electron and helium atom, heavy particles reactions, and Penning reaction between N-2 and metastable He are taken into account in the fluid model. It is found that there are cathode falling, negative glow, Faraday dark, positive column and anode glow areas in atmospheric pressure glow discharge pulse, and the ranges of different areas are changing during the current falling edge. The ranges of cathode falling area are defined according to electron production balance position (definition 1, set as d(c1)) and the electrical field distribution around cathode (definition 2, set as d(c2)), respectively. Both d(c1) and d(c2) decreaseas the current grows to its peak in one discharge pulse, which reflects the transition from Townsend discharge to glow discharge. Compared with negative glow peak position, the boundary of cathode falling area by definition 1 is closer to cathode. However, the d(c1) cannot reflect the cathode potential falling value and lose its definition after current peak moment. The d(c2) can reflect the cathode potential falling value but it causes the overlapping between cathode falling and negative glow areas. At the current peak moment, the glow peak is located at the boundary of cathode falling area according to definition 2 while the glow peak is always located in the cathode falling area during the current falling edge. The cathode falling area characteristics can be influenced by different factors, e. g. applied voltage, secondary electron emission coefficient gamma and N-2 content. By changing applied voltage, it is found that the electrical potential dropping in cathode falling area increases as the average current density decreases, which indicates that the atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier glow discharge pulse is a subnormal glow discharge, and it is close to the normal glow discharge region. When gamma < 0.02, both d(c1) and d(c2) increase sharply with gamma decreasing. When gamma > 0 : 02, d(c1) and d(c2) increase slowly with gamma increasing. When N-2 content is greater than 4 ppm, d(c1) and d(c2) first decrease and then increase slowly. The electrical potential falling of cathode is changeless with N-2 content changing. However, the voltage across the gas gap decreases with N-2 content changing because the Penning effect lowers the breakdown voltage of the gas gap. The spatial average current density has a highest value when N-2 content is about 35 ppm, which also means that the spatial average charged particle density has the highest value in the same situation. Moreover, when the secondary electron emission coefficient is a constant, both d(c1) and d(c2) have negative linear relationship with the average current density.

Abstract :

Based on a two-stage light-gas gun experimental platform, the hypervelocity impact experiment of 2A12 aluminum is performed. A high-speed photography system and a sweep Langmuir probe diagnostic system are designed to investigate the generated plasma. The high-speed photographs and the electron temperature curve of hypervelocity impact plasma are obtained. The results show that, the main jet direction of the plasma is symmetric with the flight direction of the projectile. The electron temperature and the survival time of the plasma are about 0.7eV and 1.2 ms, respectively. © 2017, The editorial office of Transaction of China Electrotechnical Society. Abstract :

Ultra high frequency (UHF) method gradually becomes an effective approach for partial discharge (PD) detection in gas insulated switchgear (GIS). The waveform of UHF signals can be acquired by digital detection instruments with a high sampling rate. By analyzing the waveform characteristics of UHF signals, the extracted features can be applied to separation of mixed signals originated from multiple PD sources. Consequently, we proposed a signal feature extraction algorithm based on waveform analysis technique. The envelope curves of UHF signals were obtained by using the Gaussian smoothing method, and some features such as rising time and falling time were extracted. The zero-cross rate was extracted to represent the oscillating characteristics of UHF signals. Moreover, the mathematical morphology gradient (MMG) of cumulative energy function was calculated to characterize its rise steepness. Thereafter, the extracted features were applied to separation of mixed UHF signals. Experiments on four typical defects, including protrusion, free-moving particle, floating electrode, and metal wire, on spacer were performed, and the classification performances of the extracted features were tested with the acquired signals. By clustering the extracted features with the fuzzy maximum likelihood algorithm, mixed UHF signals of two multi-defect models were successfully separated. The results suggest that the proposed method is effective for representing UHF signal characteristics. The extracted features can accurately classify UHF signals generated by different typical defects in GIS, and can effectively separate the PD signals of multiple defect sources. © 2017, High Voltage Engineering Editorial Department of CEPRI. Influence of Salt Contamination on Multi-Factor Corona Ageing Characteristics of HTV Silicone Rubber Insulating Material EI CPCI-S Scopus

Abstract :

Compared with traditional ceramic and glass insulators, aging phenomena of composite insulators is much more serious. High temperature, high humidity and heavy sea fog in coastal area pose great challenge to the operation of composite insulators. However, the effect of relatively complicated surrounding on composite insulator ageing is not clear yet. In this paper, a multi-factor aging system simulating costal climate is constructed, and the experimental parameters are set according to the condition in field. After the samples are aged in the system, comprehensive characteristics of aged HTV silicone rubber samples with different contamination grade and other conditions are measured, including the physical property such as hydrophobicity, the electrical property such as trap distribution and surface resistivity. To analyze the gradual changes of micro-surface condition, SEM are employed. Experimental results show that the salt contamination greatly affects the surface microstructure of HTV silicone rubber materials. Salt contamination has great influence on the loss of hydrophobicity, and with the aging time increasing, the static contact angle of four different samples showed a declining trend. Surface resistivity decrease with the development of corona aging. More contamination the sample has on its surface, lower the surface resistivity of the sample is. Moreover, with the samples aging, the trap density of aged samples with different salt contamination will increase finally.

Topology Optimization and 3D-Printing Fabrication Feasibility of High Voltage FGM Insulator EI CPCI-S Scopus

Abstract :

This paper presents the design method using topology optimization and the fabricating feasibility using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing technique for Functionally Graded Material (FGM) insulator. The concepts of FGM and topology optimization are primarily introduced. And a topology optimization approach based on COMSOL Multiphisics is proposed. The optimization objective is to uniform the electric field (E-field) inside/along insulator surface for high electrical withstanding strength. As a result, a proper distribution of permittivity inside the insulator is obtained and the maximum value of E is significantly reduced. The higher the upper bound of permittivity is, the better E-field uniformity is. Finally, it is shown that FDM technique has the potential to be applied to fabricating FGM insulator. However, several technical obstacles have to be overcome before industrial application.
