Abstract :

In a near-field four-photon correlation measurement, ghost imaging with classical incoherent light is investigated. By applying the Klyshko advanced-wave picture, we consider the properties of four-photon spatial correlation and find that the fourth-order spatial correlation function can be decomposed into multiple lower-order correlation functions. On the basis of the spatial correlation properties, a proof-of-principle four-photon ghost imaging is proposed, and the effect of each part in a fourth-order correlation function on imaging is also analyzed. In addition, the similarities and differences among ghost imaging by fourth-, second-, and third-order correlations are also discussed. It is shown that the contrast and visibility of fourth-order correlated imaging are improved significantly, while the resolution is unchanged. Such studies can be very useful in better understanding multi photon interference and multi-channel correlation imaging.

Abstract :

We investigate the fourth-order spatial correlation properties of pseudo-thermal light in the photon counting regime, and apply the Klyshko advanced-wave picture to describe the process of four-photon coincidence counting measurement. We deduce the theory of a proof-of-principle four-photon coincidence counting configuration, and find that if the four randomly radiated photons come from the same radiation area and are indistinguishable in principle, the fourth-order correlation of them is 24 times larger than that when four photons come from different radiation areas. In addition, we also show that the higher-order spatial correlation function can be decomposed into multiple lower-order correlation functions, and the contrast and visibility of low-order correlation peaks are less than those of higher orders, while the resolutions all are identical. This study may be useful for better understanding the four-photon interference and multi-channel correlation imaging.

By setting laser beams in two-photon Doppler-free configurations for both cascade and.-type subsystems in a four-level inverted-Y system, a four-wave mixing (FWM) process is studied and optimized within the Doppler profile. Abstract :

Based on double optical pumping channels, we experimentally study the competition between two coexistent six-wave mixing (SWM) processes falling into two electromagnetically induced transparency windows by scanning the frequency of the probe field in two similar five-level atomic systems of (85)Rb. By blocking one optical pumping channel unrelated to the four-wave mixing (FWM) process, one SWM process, together with the FWM process, generated by a conjugated small-angle static grating could be observed in the spectrum. Moreover, the other SWM process obtained by blocking the first SWM channel is also observed together with the FWM process in a lower N-type four-level subsystem. These experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions.

Abstract :

We analyze the interaction of three laser fields with a four-level quantum system in a tripod configuration. We obtain an analytical expression for the linear susceptibility and nonlinear susceptibility of a weak-probe field and show that the properties of double electromagnetically induced transparency and the self-Kerr nonlinearity can be modified significantly by changing the ratio of the two coupling fields. We also show that a coherently prepared tripod scheme can be used for a giant self-Kerr nonlinearity generation with vanishing absorption in the case of optimal ratio. We present a physical understanding of our numerical results using the dressed-state approach and analytical explanation. (C) 2010 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

Harmonic distortion is an important analog performance index of the seismic data acquisition system (SDAS). A fast algorithm based on modified FFT pruning is proposed to analyze the harmonic distortion of the SDAS. The key of the harmonic distortion analysis is to compute the fundamental and harmonic components of the measured data. In this paper, a comparative analysis between the algorithm based on standard FFT and those based on single-bin DFT is performed. The calculating speed of each algorithm based on single-bin DFT is faster than algorithm based on standard FFT for harmonic distortion analysis of the SDAS. Moreover, of all the algorithms based on single-bin DFT, the modified FFT pruning algorithm is the most suitable for the harmonic distortion analysis of the SDAS with large numbers of channels.

We theoretically investigate the controlled multi-wave mixing (MWM) via interacting multi-dark states in a five-level system Four-wave mixing (FWM) with three kinds of dual-dressed schemes (nested, sequential. and parallel schemes), six-wave mixing (SWM) with the quadruply nested dressed, and eight-wave mixing (EWM) with the parallel combination of two nested dressed schemes coexisting synchronously in a multi-dressed electromagnetically induced transparency system were well described. Through investigating their spectra, we found that these multi-dressed-states induced by various dressed schemes show strong interaction and interchange Investigations of these multi-dressing schemes and interactions are very useful for understanding and controlling the generated high-order nonlinear optical signals. We propose a scheme for the enhancement of nonlinear susceptibility in a four-level tripod-type atomic system in the presence of a microwave field. With a microwave field, nonlinear susceptibility can be enhanced. Nonlinearity can also be ulteriorly enhanced by controlling the coupling field under the optimal intensity of the microwave field. The physical mechanism of the obtained giant nonlinear susceptibility is mainly based on interactions between microwave field and coupling fields. We present a physical understanding of our numerical results using a dressed-state approach and an analytical explanation.

Abstract :

A theoretical investigation is carried out into the effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on Kerr nonlinearity of a four-level N-type system. It's found that the Kerr nonlinearity can be obviously enhanced with SGC present. We attribute the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity mainly to the generation of extra coherences induced by the superposition of the two SGC channels, and when the superposition is controlled by the interference between two SGC channels properly, the maximal Kerr nonlinearity does not only enter the electromagnetically induced transparency window as the spontaneous generated coherences intensify, but also gets enhanced about 10 times with very large SGC coefficients than that with no SGC effect.
