Viscosity of oxygenated fuel: A model based on Eyring's absolute rate theory EI

Abstract :

A viscosity model was proposed for oxygenated fuel components; it was based on Eyring's absolute rate theory and a cubic equation of state Soave-Redlich-Kwong. The viscosity was associated with flow energy which could be divided into the activation energy and the vacancy-formation energy, and then a reference state for simplifying the calculation process was introduced in the present model. This work also reported a viscosity database at temperatures from 243.15 K to 413.15 K and pressures up to 200 MPa for 31 oxygenated fuel components containing alcohols, esters and ethers in order to verify the proposed model. The average absolute relative deviations between calculated and experimental data were lower than 2.37%. Furthermore, the free-volume model, which has a similar consideration of flow energy with this work, was chosen to further investigate the performance of the present model, and in general, the present model showed a better accuracy than the free-volume model. Finally, it was shown that the proposed model could be extended to the mixtures successfully. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

Performance comparison of two absorption-compression hybrid refrigeration systems using R1234yf/ionic liquid as working pair EI

Abstract :

R1234yf (2,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-ene)/ionic liquid is a kind of environment-friendly working pair, which can overcome the disadvantages of H2O/LiBr and NH3/H2O. In this work, three new working pairs R1234yf/[HMIM][TfO], R1234yf/[HMIM][PF6], R1234yf/[HMIM][BF4] were proposed and new solubility data for them were determined. Two new absorption-compression hybrid refrigeration systems were proposed to improve the cooling performances of the single-effect absorption refrigeration system using R1234yf/[HMIM][TfO], R1234yf/[HMIM][PF6] and R1234yf/[HMIM][BF4] as working pair. The effects of compressor position, compression ratio (r), generation temperature (Tg), evaporation temperature (Te), condensation temperature (Tc) and absorption temperature (Ta) on the coefficient of performance (COP) and circulation ratio (f) were analyzed. Comparison result shows that the two systems can effectively improve the cooling performance of the single-effect absorption refrigeration system including increasing COP, reducing the heat load of condenser and f, and enlarge the operation range of Tg, Ta, and Te. Putting compressor between evaporator and absorber is a better choice than putting it between generator and condenser. R1234yf/[HMIM][TfO] shows better cooling performance than R1234yf/[HMIM][PF6] and R1234yf/[HMIM][BF4] due to its favorable thermophysical properties. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

Abstract :

An experimental study on the isobaric molar heat capacities of ethyl nonanoate and ethyl dodecanoate was performed at temperatures between 303 K and 393 K and at pressures between 0.1 MPa and 25.2 MPa. An increase of isobaric molar heat capacity with temperature increase was observed, and temperature was found to have a greater effect on isobaric molar heat capacity than pressure. Then the isobaric molar heat capacity data of 18 saturated fatty acid methyl and ethyl esters in literature were selected, to get a general correlation for the isobaric molar heat capacity of saturated fatty acid alkyl esters. The average absolute relative deviation and the maximum deviation of the present correlation from experimental data are lower than 0.70% and 3.82%, respectively. At last, to test the predictive ability of the proposed correlation, the heat capacities of ethyl nonanoate and ethyl dodecanoate were calculated. The average absolute relative deviation and the maximum deviation from our experimental results are 0.88% and 2.10%, respectively. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract :

The speed of sound in n-octane and isooctane (2,2,4-trimethylpentane) was measured by the Brillouin light scattering (BLS) method. The examined regions for n-octane are T = (297-580) K along five isobaric lines at p = 0.1, 4.0, 7.0, 10.0, and 12.0 MPa for liquid and T = (573-673) K along ten isobaric lines with p = (3.0-10.0) MPa for supercritical fluid. The examined regions for isooctane are T = (294-525) K along five isobaric lines at p = 0.1, 3.0, 6.0, 10.0, and 12.0 MPa for liquid and T = (543-630) K along six isobaric lines with p = (3.0-10.0) MPa for supercritical fluid. The relative expanded uncertainty of the speed of sound is estimated less than 1.3%. Polynomial representations for the speed of sound in liquid n-octane and isooctane were fitted to the experimental results, respectively. The AADs are 0.27% for n-octane and 0.19% for isooctane. The influence of temperature and pressure on the speed of sound was also analyzed. Moreover, the data were also used to assess the predicted ability of three equations of state for n-octane.

The solubilities and diffusion coefficients of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (R245fa), 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-hepta fluoropropane (R227ea) and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane (R236fa) in 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([FIMIM][Tf2N]) were determined experimentally along five isotherms (303.15, 313.15, 323.15, 333.15 and 343.15 K) with pressures from 0.01 to 0.50 MPa. The solubility measurements were carried out using the isochoric saturation method. A semi-infinite volume method was used to calculate diffusion coefficient via the time-dependent pressure-decay data. NRTL model was used to correlate the gas solubility data of R245fa, R227ea and R236fa in [HMIM][Tf2N] with the average absolute relative deviations less than 1.0%, while Wilke-Chang equation was used to correlate the diffusion coefficient data with the average absolute relative deviations less than 9.7%. Improvement of dynamic light scattering method for measurement of particle diameter and liquid viscosity EI SCIE CSCD PKU

Abstract :

Dynamic light scattering (DLS) technology has been employed to measure the hydrodynamic diameter of particle and liquid viscosity by detecting the translational diffusion coefficient of Brownian particle in the suspending liquid. The interaction between the particles in the suspension may lead to unpredictable deviations when the Stokes-Einstein equation is applied directly in the measurement. In order to solve this problem, this paper deduced the Stokes-Einstein's equation and introduced the One-Parameter Models to modify the existing DLS measurement principle. Based on the One-Parameter Models, the linear relation of collective translational diffusion coefficient with the single-particle translational diffusion coefficient and particles concentration was established and verified by the measurement under low particle concentration, which was introduced in the DLS principle. The improved method was able to obtain the single-particle translational diffusion coefficient, then the problem caused by the change of particle size in the suspension was solved. Compared with previous methods, the improved method can be used to measure the nominal diameter of nanoscale spherical particles and absolutely detect liquid viscosity. The fundamental principle of detection by light scattering was explained and a DLS experimental system was established for the measurement of viscosity and particle size. The two dispersed systems of polystyrene particles + water and silica particles + alcohol were considered as the samples for reference and measured to verify the reasonability of the improved method presented in this work. In addition, the influence of temperature and particles concentration on the collective translational diffusion coefficient was detected for this two dispersed systems. The interaction between the particles in the suspension was analyzed based on the experimental results. In a two-component system composed of rigid particles and liquid, three types of force act on a particle, which included the "Brownian" force, the direct interactions between the particles and the hydrodynamic interactions. The combined effects of the three forces can be qualitatively described as attractive or repulsive. The collective translational diffusion coefficient of the particles in the suspension increases with the increase of the particle volume concentration, indicating that the force between the particles in the suspension is repulsive, and vice versa. In addition, it was confirmed that in the ideal thin suspension, the Brownian motion of the particles increases with the temperature increases. The experimental results indicated the attractive forces among the polystyrene particles in water and the repulsive force among the silica particles in alcohol. The relationship between the second osmotic virial coefficient and the law of particles' collective translational diffusion coefficient with particles concentration is discussed.

Abstract :

The isobaric molar heat capacities of ethyl octanoate and ethyl decanoate were determined at T = 294-354 K and p = 0.1-24 MPa. The measurements were conducted by a flow calorimeter. The measured results were in good agreements with several available experimental data at atmosphere pressure and the calculated results at high pressure in literatures. Furthermore, a fitting equation was presented to calculate the C-p of ethyl octanoate and ethyl decanoate. The maximum absolute relative deviations between experimental results and calculated data are lower than 0.4%.

In this work, the solubilities and diffusion coefficients of refrigerant trans-l-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (R1233zd(E)) in three imidazolium ionic liquids were measured at temperatures from 303.1 to 343.2 K and pressures up to 0.14 MPa. The ionic liquids include 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([HMIM][Tf2N]), 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([HMIM][TfO]), and 1-hexyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroboratea([HMIM][BF4]). The non-random two-liquid (NRTL) activity coefficient model was employed to correlate the experimental solubility data successfully, the AAD between the measured data and calculated values for the solubilities of R1233zd(E) in [HMIM] [Tf2N], [HMIM] [TfO], and [HMIM] [BF4] are 3.1, 2.5, and 4.0%, respectively. The Wilke-Chang equation was used to correlate diffusion coefficients, the relative deviations between experimental results and the values calculated are most within 10%. Meanwhile, the solubility and diffusivity of refrigerant gases R32, R125, R152a, RI61, R143a, R1234yf, R1234ze(E), and R1233zd(E) in ionic liquids [HMIM][Tf2N], [HMIM][TfO], and [HMIM][BF4] were compared and analyzed.

In this paper, new data for the solubilities and diffusion coefficients of difluoromethane (R32), fluoroethane (R161) and 1,1-difluoroethane (R152a) in ionic liquid 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tris (pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate ([HMIM][FEP]) at temperatures ranging from 293 K to 343 K and at pressures up to 0.5 MPa were presented. The solubilities of R32, R161 and R152a in [HMIM][FEP] can be improved by decreasing the temperature and increasing the pressure. With the increasing temperature, the diffusion coefficients and Henry's law constants of the three hydrofluorocarbons increase. The solubilities and diffusion coefficients of R32, R152a, and R161 in [HMIM][FEP) were correlated well with the NRTL equation and the Wilke-Chang equation, respectively. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. Determination of critical properties for binary and ternary mixtures containing dimethyl carbonate and alkanes EI SCIE Scopus

Abstract :

Critical temperatures and pressures were measured for five binary mixtures (DMC + n-hexane, DMC + n-heptane, DMC + n-octane, DMC + n-nonane and DMC + n-decane) and two ternary mixtures (DMC + n-hexane + n-octane and DMC + n-heptane + n-decane) covering whole composition interval. The critical properties were obtained from observing the critical opalescence. The standard uncertainties of temperatures and pressures are no more than 0.65 K and 0.016 MPa. The critical temperature and pressure curves of binary mixtures are continuous, belong to type I or type II defined by Scott and van Konynenburg. DMC + Alkane (n-heptane, n-octane and n-nonane) mixtures show minimums in critical temperature curve. The Redlich-Kister equations are used to correlate the critical properties for binary mixtures. The critical data for ternary mixtures are correlated with the Cibulka's equations and Singh's equations.
